Tibetan terrier

Be aware, owning a TT can be addictive and one might not be enough!

Tibetan terrier is an attractive medium-sized dog with a long straight or wavy coat, sturdy and square shaped. The breed originated in Tibet. They are terriers only by the name, not by the temperament. They do not belong to terrier group but to the group IX., the companion dogs.

In general, they are a healthy breed. Their beautiful double coat requires regular maintenance and a lot of brushing. Some owners prefer to clip the coat down what give them forever puppy look. The coat can come in any color or color combination, just liver color and dogs with brown nose should be excluded from breeding.

They look very charming with their long coat, big feet and long tail curling above the back. Their tail is a radar which always reveals their moods – joyful wagging means a happy TT.

They are wonderful family pets loving their families unconditionally and enjoying being around people. On the other hand, they can be very independent, stubborn and not following owners instruction at first or for hundred percent. They perfectly understand what is wanted from them and only they decide to follow or not.

They love walks in the nature and activities, but will enjoy laying down on a couch with you as well. Some of them enjoy swimming, others avoid lakes and rivers. Large garden can make them busy on daily basis but can happily live in an apartment when exercise and long walks are involved.

Tibetan terriers are called little people as they are very gentle, playful, smart and very empathetic.

TTs are reserved to stranger, however, should never be aggressive. Some are barkers, very chatty and vocal, some are very quiet. At any time these little clowns will make you smile at a wink of your eye.

They don´t like to be left alone for long hours and are prone to separation anxiety if not train since young age.

If you are looking for a loyal, trusting friend you could not choose a better breed.
